2.Zinnias

Zinnias have simply amazed me with their beauty. They come in such rich colors that attract butterflies and hummingbirds to my garden. I have love growing them outside and inside. They make the best cut flower arrangements to enjoy in a vase in your home or even on your outdoor living space.
The seeds are so easy to collect as the flower head withers and dries. I save more than enough each year, simply store them, and then plant more zinnias next year.
I like to grow them in the ground, but have even grown zinnias in containers.

3. Sunflowers
Sunflowers are absolutely the best yellow, burnt orange, and even some hint of brown flowers I have ever seen (take your pick—so many to choose from).
They will stand tall and proud in your garden. Just beware the squirrels love them and so do certain birds (I learned the hard way!).
Just plant successions of them (every 3-4 weeks), protect them early on with vented plastic bell covers, and enjoy when they burst forth.
If you plant plenty you may actually get some seeds to enjoy when they mature despite the wildlife.

4.Salvias
Salvias are such a wonderful plant to grow along side your vegetables. They burst with beautiful colors. You should consider making these blue/purple gems a fixture in your garden. Varieties bloom and re-bloom or even continuously bloom all summer long. Take your pick which you prefer. You will be delighted with the bushy round look with muliple strands of flowers standing straight up and demanding the attention of pollinators—yes the ones your garden needs to thrive. 5. Nasturtiums
Nasturtiums offer so many benefits to the vegetable garden. They add color and unique structure with their circular miniature lily pad looking leaves.
The leaves and colorful flowers are edible. They are often enjoyed in salads or even as imprints on sweet treats.
But, don’t let these lovelies fool you, insects are a sucker for nasturtiums unique ability to deter them from the more important harvests in the vegetable garden.
If you want broccoli, cabbages, cucumbers, and kale then trust me —you want to make nasturtiums your garden friend. I know what it is like to have a crop (my broccoli) ruined by an unsightly infestation of white flies. Trust me, plant nasturtiums (lots).
